Google verifier keep on getting "Error: authentication failed"

Hello, I’m trying to use the Passkey feature. I see that I need to setup a verifier for the sdk to connect.
In dashboard when I tried to create a custom authentication using google provider, I keep getting this error

I have followed every steps here

including adding Web3Auth to the allowed redirect.
Any idea why?

Thanks!

Hi DVendy!

Thank you for reaching out! I see that you’re facing an “authentication failed” error while setting up the Google verifier with the Single Factor Auth Web SDK.

Here are the details that I gathered from your message for the support team:

  • SDK Details: Single Factor Auth Web SDK
  • Issue: Google verifier returns “Error: authentication failed”
  • Method of Login: Google provider
  • Link to documentation followed: Web3Auth Google Provider Setup
  • Image provided: Yes (the error screenshot)

To help you troubleshoot, please double-check that:

  1. The Client ID in your Web3Auth dashboard matches the one you got from the Google Developer Console.
  2. Your redirect URL is correctly configured in your Google Console.

If those look good and you still face issues, please share the Web3Auth initialization code snippet, as that can help us pinpoint the problem.

Looking forward to solving this with you!

Hey @dlacia.vendy,

It seems there might have been a misunderstanding in following the steps. Instead of pasting “MY-CLIENT-ID” directly into the Web3Auth dashboard, you should follow the instructions in this section to create a Google app and use the client ID generated from there.

Please give that a try, and feel free to reach out if you need further assistance!

hi @maharshi thanks for the reply!
Yes I’ve followed that page and pasted the whole client_id from google which is
493194061108-e3k59ue9bp75i4jr0qjmf5qln76ltpfd.apps.googleusercontent.com

I also have input the url https://auth.web3auth.io/auth into the " Authorized redirect URIs" section of the google cloud.

Is there something I missed?

If you have followed the guide completely then I don’t think anything’s missing. Can you please share the error that you’re facing?

The error I got is only the red text “Error: authentication failed”. Is there any other configuration from google side?

Hey @dlacia.vendy,
I might need more logs than just the “Error: authentication failed” to understand where the root cause of the issue lies. Could you please submit a recording using a tool like jam.dev so we can take a closer look and troubleshoot the issue?
